Co2 Replica in Denmark . Confused
Co2 Replica in Denmark . Confused
Hello everyone and apologies for my lack of Danish .
I recently moved to Aarhus from the UK. I have a nice collection of 4.5 mm pellet and steel BB firing replicas back home. Walther CP88, PPK, Luger P.08, Colt1911 etc. I wanted to some sent over but several weeks ago someone told me without doubt that these were forbidden by Danish law, I assumed this correct and forgot about doing it but then today a guy working in an airsoft shop assured me, also with certainty that since 2018 these were classed as airguns and are now perfectly legal to own. Which version is correct ? I would love to have my beloved armoury shipped over but want to be certain I'm not breaking the law.
So which is it ? Legal , illegal ????
Thanks

Re: Co2 Replica in Denmark . Confused
It is certainly confusing, and it's been the subject of some debate here too as the law isn't clear on this point.
It is the current understanding that a pellet gun in 4,5mm using co2 requires a permit in Denmark.

Re: Co2 Replica in Denmark . Confused
As Marius told you, the law is quite unclear on this matter and to my knowledge it has never been truly challenged or clarified. For example, airsoft guns shooting 6 mm plastic BB's are allowed to propel them using CO2, but not 4.5 mm steel BB's.Bullgoose skrev: ↑2. sep 2020, 21:00Hello everyone and apologies for my lack of Danish .

Legal wise there are not any laws which explicitly permit 4.5 mm CO2 firearms.
In Denmark airsoft guns using 6 mm plastic BBs are legal to own. They can use propellants like gas, CO2, springs etc.
Airguns are also legal, but have to use either air (PCP) or springs as the main propellant and can be chambered for .177/4.5 mm and larger calibers.
So CO2-pellet guns are in a grey area where laws regarding airguns and airsoft guns don't apply to them, but in Denmark guns as such are illegal unless otherwise exempted. That is why 4.5 mm CO2-guns are deemed illegal unless a court order make them legal or the law is changed to specifically make them legal.

Re: Co2 Replica in Denmark . Confused

Thank you for your replies. Looks like I'm forced down the airsoft route for my kicks for now. Any opinions on whether a 6mm bb replica can be as accurate over 6-10 metres as a steel BB 4.5mm ?
Kinda nuts that I can I have a 350 + m/s air rifle but not a 90 m/s plinking pistol. I see the UK is not alone in having absurd airgun laws .

Re: Co2 Replica in Denmark . Confused
A 6mm airsoft is not precice.
And firering metal projectiles larger than 4,5mm requires a permit. So airguns with a larger caliper than 4,5mm requires a permit.
You can maybe convert some of your co2 pistols to PCP, then they are legal.

Re: Co2 Replica in Denmark . Confused
Are pellet guns in 4.5 mm rifled? If yes, then no airsoft gun will be able to compete. If no, then maybe...In general most quality airsoft pistols (meaning those made by a decent manufacturer in Hong Kong, Japan or Taiwan) will be able to hold minute-of-beer can at 10 meters distance. Airsoft long guns can deliver more power and more consistent accuracy (if you go mid-level and higher in quality).Bullgoose skrev: ↑2. sep 2020, 22:58Thank you for your replies. Re: Co2 Replica in Denmark . Confused
A 4.5mm CO2 powered Pistol, using steel BB's will have about the same accuracy, as a 6mm Plastic BB firing AirSoft, at 10 meters.
I have a Tanaka SAA and it easily holds MOB(Minute of Beer Can) at 10 meters, with .25-.30Gram BB's
It actually has a decent accuracy, at 20 meters also(With Winther Gas/Propane), but not like a 4.5mm Pellet Pistol, with a rifled barrel.

Re: Co2 Replica in Denmark . Confused
But there is a important different between Danish and UK laws that I don't know if you are aware of: Sport shooters can actually own a lot of the handguns that UK citizens can only own as replicas.Bullgoose skrev: ↑2. sep 2020, 22:58Thank you for your replies. It might not be relevant to you interests, and there is of course a lot of rules and regulation. But it is an option, although I don't know if there are further restrictions for foreign citizens
Re: Co2 Replica in Denmark . Confused
I will look into this option in time. I assume there must be a few clubs around Aarhus.
For now I will get some cheap plinker to shoot in the flat with. Maybe a Beeman p17

Re: Co2 Replica in Denmark . Confused
Just be aware that the law requires two years of active membership of a pistol club/shooting club in order to get a permit for your own handgun. So if you think pistol shooting may be of your interest later on, better join a club sooner than later.
