Largest legal pistol/revolver caliber in Denmark is 9 mm/.38 so the .44 Mag and .45 acp will be impossible to bring permanently to Denmark.

The "legalization" of calibers .40S&W and .45ACP is right around the corner, by the end of this year hopefully.

Re: Relocating back to DK and would to bring my firearms with me
There's also the factor that to possess pistols and revolvers in Denmark, you need to have been an active member of a danish shooting club for 2 years. If you travel to Denmark, before moving here, it would be a good idea to get in touch with one or more shooting clubs, and become a member of one of them quickly.
Don't be too discouraged, it is possible to move to Denmark with some of your guns, we have a member in my club who moved back here a couple of years ago. I can put you in touch with him, if you're interested.

Re: Relocating back to DK and would to bring my firearms with me
Your 12 Gauge seems to be within the required minimum length, 22" I believe it is.
The blades are legal with a permit. No worries on the dogs!
You would have to have been member of a danish gun club (where the guns remain) for 2 years before you are allowed to take them home. I would assume it could be problematic for you getting them into the country any other way. But honestly I don't know what the law dictates in regards to non-citizens.
Good luck on it.... og velkommen tilbage

Re: Relocating back to DK and would to bring my firearms with me
Do you have a Danish hunting licence? If not you need to take the course or maybe you can join a trap sporting club. (regarding your 12.)
The dogs should be no problem as long as they are vaccinated etc. Maybe they have a quarantine period before they are allowed in. Ill ask the girlfriend (vet).
It takes a long time to get the small arms license in Dk. So you might have to get started on it asap. I am not sure but you might be able to have get the license for you guns and then they have to be placed in the gun club.
For the blades: you just need a “Blank våbens tilladelse”, they are free and you get them on the local police station.

Thank you everybody, I really appriciate your feedback..
I did take my hunting permit and bow permit back in 85!! proberly wont be racognized anymore...
Have been hunting primitive and modern the last 13 years in the us and have a concealed weapon or firearm license wich allowe concealed carry in 33 + 2 states (AK and VE allowe open carry).
I am really surprised 9mm/.38 cal. are max - what is the logic behind that - a well placed shot from a .22 is more deadly than a miss with a .50 cal!!
Just trowing it out there, again thank you for your help.

Don't expect to find logic in the danish gun laws...... even us locals have given up on that project....45-70 skrev: I am really surprised 9mm/.38 cal. are max - what is the logic behind that - a well placed shot from a .22 is more deadly than a miss with a .50 cal!!

If you have kept paying for your danish Hunters License, at least once every 10 years, then you will still be on the Book.
Carrying handguns in Denmark, is only allowed to and from the Shooting Range, and carrying them in a holster on your body, even unloaded, is an instant 1+ year unconditional prison time...

Re: Relocating back to DK and would to bring my firearms with me
Totally off the subject, but unless you have been back much since 1992, be ready for a surprise. Denmark is not what it used to be. I left in 1991 and have been back several times since but each time I am reminded how things have changed. One thing I have noticed is the decline of the educational system. Twenty years ago an average Danish student could come to the U.S. and really stand out academically. Now most are average here as well, and some even toward the bottom of the class. I worked with several Danish university students who struggled in an American college.
I also had the displeasure of being exposed to groups of Danish high school students visiting the U.S. and each time (four total) the group was primarily made up of the most disrespectful, misbehaved little turds I ever met. I am talking stuff like making out (grossly) in public, reading magazines in lectures, heavy drinking and destruction of property.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy going back but as a visitor. Trying to fit in again is darn near impossible as the moment people pick up on the fact that you are not a resident, they often treat you very differently. It can be extremely frustrating in public like in stores and such.
On a very, very positive note, the members from this forum I had the pleasure of meeting were all very nice and went out of their way to make be feel welcome. Getting to know people and keeping up on all things Danish the past few years was a very smart thing for me to do.
Good luck on your move back and welcome to NVF.

Thank you everyone,
Called my brother today and talked about danish knife law!!!! WHAT THE Hell. this is crazy - even when I lived back home the first thing I put on in the morning was my watch next was my pocket knife...90% of the pocket kinfes I own are one hand open or assisted or auto. Even my multi tools - freelander, letherman, suspension, etc. are operated one handed..
Hey Universial, the second dane I know of who live in the us..How is the fly fishing NE??
I have been home 6 times the last 10 years, but never payed no notice - my family live in a village in nord jylland with less than 500 people,we are all family...Went hunting last fall with the same people I went to school with for 10 years and was so close to bag a Raadyr. My friend Paw was behind the buck.
People do not get me wrong I am all Danish, still a statsboger. Pasport still danish. Wish i had a litle more fredom.

Re: Relocating back to DK and would to bring my firearms with me
Don´t worry too much 45-70. It´s not everything that you have, you can take to DK, but a fair part of it should be possible. I relocated back to Denmark myself two years ago, and there are advantages here too. I lived some years in Greenland, where we buy weapons and ammunition along with milk and bread, so things are a bit different here.
First, lets look at your hunting weapons: The 12 gauge and the 45-70. If you were allowed to hunt where you lived, you can apply for a temporary hunters license at Skov & Naturstyrelsen. This means that you can get importlicence for the hunting weapons. The temporary license usually runs for one year, so you have to pass the test for a danish jagttegn within that period.
The 9 mm and the 357 probably could be imported the same way: If you have been a member of a shooting club where you live, you might get that time credited, so you can start i a club in Denmark with those guns right away.
But don´t bring anything to Denmark unless you have import license from the danish police. Violation of weapon regulations are taken very seriously here at the time beeing.

Re: Relocating back to DK and would to bring my firearms with me
@45-70
I you're unemployed in FL and things are though AND you got a job lined up in Denmark, then maybe it will be worth it to return if nothing else then for the cultural experience. If your family have medical issues (and you're a Danish citizen) it may also be a good proposition, since the Danish healthcare system would probably beat a poor American plan (a good plan not so much I think).
The Danish education system have been in decline for a very long time. In my expirience a Danish high school exam ca. 1990 is the equivalent of a Danish primary school/junior high exam ca. 1960/73. In my expirience education quality went down as old teachers retired. I can't recommend going to Denmark for the education expirience. Besides should your children get a Danish higher education they may be required to stay in Denmark to "work their student debt off". This has been proposed by both the socialist block and the conservative party as well as a government comission - and I personally think this has a higher chance of becoming law than the permission to own a .45 (but that may just be pessimist me).
Your guns can be handled thusly: Find a gun club where you want to live, preferably one where you have connections (NVF). Get an export licence from US to Denmark. Get a Danish importlicence. Register your guns to the gunclub and store them there (this will take care of your pistols up to 9mm/.38) the others I recommend either storing at a licenced Danish gundealer or leaving in the US. You need to retake your Danish hunting exam to keep your shotgun without being a member of a special shotgun club - IF you haven't renewed it at least every 10 years. The exam is the same as in '85.
All assisted opening knives, one handed opening knives are BANNED violation is subject to 7 days mandatory jail time. Knives carried "withouth a valid reason" are also banned subject to aforementioned 7 days mandatory jailtime (theres and exception for folding knives with no lock and a blade length of 2 in./7 cm. 7 cm is the law - be safe and use the 2 in. as interpretation may vary.
Carriage of firearms except DIRECTLY to and from the range/hunting ground are BANNED, BANNED, BANNED subject to confiscation, a hefty fine and if it's pistols the likelyhood of a one year mandatory jail sentence (please note that your family risk being deported if they're not citizens while you're in jail).
Gunwise: STAY IN THE LAND OF THE FREE.
Culturally: You will probably find Danish culture both cold and insolent - if you've gotten acostomed to the US. Danish youth drink a lot and theres a lot of group pressure to do it (I was a teetotaller myself until my 24th. year, and didn't "hang out" a lot partly for that reason).
Economically: Expect your standard of living to decline if you're going from middleclass employment to middleclass employment. I wouldn't buy a home in Denmark right now even if prices are "low". Also know that bankrupcy in Europe is VERY hard to do, so all debt is student debt right down to the credit card.
The Danish wellfare system is also hard to get into - prepare for a minimum of two years of fulltime employment before there's ANY assistance (other than deportation)
Finally: I have family abroard too, and the few times they have visited they spoke of how they couldn't reconise Denmark any more because of the immigration... So that can be an issure as well. Denmark has become for better or worse much more "multicultural"

Re: Relocating back to DK and would to bring my firearms with me
Yes but they must be longer than 210mm. If they are shorter they are prohibited in Denmark and you won´t get a licence for them. Also your rifles and shotguns can't be semiautomatic unless they are modified to accept only two shots, and then the magazine has to be welded to the frame or a plug welded inside the tubular magasine for your shotty.BoPe skrev:
